President's Message about the FireWolves coming to Oshawa
On behalf of the Oshawa Minor Lacrosse Blue Knights, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the FireWolves Lacrosse Club of the National Lacrosse League.
The news of having our own NLL franchise has garnered much excitement over the past few days, not only in Oshawa, but across the Durham Region, and nearby municipalities. We hope this excitement results in many happy returns and much success for the FireWolves, both on and off the floor. Oshawa Blue Knights will be here with you!
Professional lacrosse is not new to Oshawa as we have hosted games by the Toronto Rock, hosted World Indoor Championship games, and have many players in our City and Durham Region go on to play in the National Lacrosse League, Canadian Lacrosse League and the Arena Lacrosse League.
Lacrosse has been played in Oshawa since time immemorial, starting with the original Indigenous inhabitants. Modern lacrosse started here in 1872, bringing a world championship team in 1929, Jim Bishop's remarkable 7-time national champion Green Gaels in the 1960's, and a string of provincial and national champions with our namesake Oshawa Blue Knights in field lacrosse.
Our club was graciously gifted with our current name through the generosity of Ontario and Canadian Hall of Famer member Terry Lloyd, founder of the original Blue Knights.
Again, on behalf of the Blue Knights let me say, "Go Wolves Go! Go Wolves Go!"
