What's a Blue Knight?
When Oshawa Minor Lacrosse started up in 2009, the working name was, of course, Oshawa Green Gaels, a nod to the previous Oshawa Minor Lacrosse Association that ran from the early sixties to the early eighties. Understandably, when our application to the OLA was submitted, there was some concern from our neighbours to the east, the Clarington Gaels - they would not allow us to use the shamrock logo nor use the name Gaels. The dilemma as to what to name our club was short-lived however, as Terry Lloyd generously agreed to let us use the name Blue Knights. The Blue Knight nickname was originally used with a men's senior lacrosse team in the late 70's and then worked its way into minor field lacrosse with an association with Whitby Minor Lacrosse.
Terry is the original Blue Knight, the guy who started it all and whose dedication to lacrosse in Oshawa is without parallel. Terry played for the Oshawa Minor Green Gaels back in the day and ended up playing for the Oshawa Green Gaels Jr. A in the early seventies.
